Didn't get it Done

I know, I know!  I haven't gotten to Walmart yet.  It has just been one of those weeks.  I had a last minute change on a bridal set and have a wedding tomorrow so I am going to have to put off the field trip until next week.

But I will say I had a wonderful lunch with my dear friend Donna today, which gave me another idea for a topic.  Instead of "Toddlers & Tiaras" how about Children & Character.  I feel as though our society is over focusing on self (superficial) and not enough on being a better person.  I will write about this subject after the field trip.....

If there is a topic you would like addressed please let me know!!!!!   What do you talk about when you get together with the girls (guys)???

What to Wear When YOU go to Walmart?

It was a day designed for no fuss attire and no make-up, you know the days I explain it that I need to let my skin breath, the fact is, I didn't want to go to all the bother of getting ready.  With no appointments booked and just studio and design work to do I felt pretty safe to go La Naturale.  Then I realized I needed to run to Walmart!!!

While getting ready in the bathroom my eldest daughter came in and asked, where I was going.  Now mind you I wasn't putting on my best designer duds, just  something simple, but cute.  I told her Walmart, her reaction was one of surprised that I would go through the bother and time of  fixing myself up a bit just to go to Walmart.

So, Why do I bother???
     Why should anyone bother???

I am going to sleep on this and report back tomorrow, but not before going on a field trip to my local Walmart.  I am going to scope out just how people "bother" to get ready for a little shopping.

So if you are in my neighborhood Walmart tomorrow, you had better not go with your hair in rollers or might find yourself on my blog.

Talk to ya later.....

Jewelry Inspiration

It is really exciting to see my clients get involved in the design process!

I had a client who got this freshwater pearl and turquoise design and came to me to see if I could do it in a black and white version and here it is.

I love it.

I can't wait to see her face when she sees this.....

Fabulous Summer Hair

Bangin' beach hair

Believe it or not, these summer hairstyles are all pretty simple —and will leave you looking chic all day long. No matter what style you choose, don't forget the SPF — for your hair. You'll want to have hair that looks moisturized when you're out in the sun.  It's good to keep some oil in the hair and use products  with sun protection. It will keep hair from drying out and looking like hay.

1. CHIC BUN

To get this look at home, start off by applying a protective hair spray like Kerastase Micro-Voile Protecteur, $36, through damp hair. Then, pull hair into a pony tail at the crown of the head. Secure it with an elastic and wrap the ponytail around, anchoring it with bobby pins.

2. WAVY AND FREE

This is the perfect look if you have naturally wavy hair. It's great because the humidity is bringing out the natural wave and curl.  Create this look by scrunching your hair after washing, applying a protective styling gel, such as Phyto Plage Protective Styling Gel, $26, and then letting it air-dry on its own without touching it. You want the curls to set into place and take on their form as they dry, If you touch it as it's drying, it will result in frizzies.

3. LONG AND WAVY

For gals with long, straight hair, get this sexy, wavy look by creating a side part and pulling damp hair back into a low bun.  Then, let that dry and when you take it down you will have that automatic wave formation.  The bun is going to give that undulation, that wave you see.   If you have wavy hair, simply part your hair on the side and pull it back in a headband. Then, let the hair dry.  When you take it out you will have that wave.

4. FRENCH BRAIDS

Braids are all the rage. To create this look, first apply a leave-in conditioner to damp hair to give it some texture. Then, part your hair on the side and start a French braid that follows the hairline, working its way down toward the ear. Do this on each side of the part. Last, secure the ends of the braids with elastic.  You need long, hanging hair for this look.

5. BRAIDED ACCENTS [Britney]

This look is about making random little braids from the part. First, start off with some serum or cream to give hair some texture, but don't apply too much otherwise it might end up feeling greasy.  Make a couple braids on each side of the part and a couple in the back.  This is the best look for long hair so the braids can fall. Otherwise they might look stubby.  If you want to add some pizazz to this look, weave some strips of fabric into the braids.

6. PERFECT PONYTAIL

You can't go wrong with a pony.  The key here is hair blown-dry naturally or upside down with some mousse to give it some volume, I have heard that applying an after-sun moisturizing mist, such as Phyto Hydrating After Sun Hair Mist, $28, to the hair. Then, the hair is loosely pulled back, not so severely, resting at the occipital bone in the lower rear of the head and secured in ponytail.  Finish the look by taking a section of the ponytail and wrapping it around the base and pinning it into place. This look is perfect for gals with longish hair and long bangs.

7. BRAID AND BUN

A French braid updates the classic bun. Get this look by parting your hair in the middle or on the side and taking big sections of hair to weave into a French braid.  The chunky sections of hair is what gives it that hefty thick braided look.  There are six sections of hair that were braided and you work in three pieces of hair as you're braiding.   At the end of the braid, gather with elastic, create a ponytail and then secure into a low bun.

8. WAVY BOB

I love this; it is so cute.  This is about working with the natural wave in the hair.  To get this look on straight hair, use a one-inch barrel curling iron and curl the hair in one-inch sections, being careful not to curl the ends—to give it that "flicky" look. Then, finger tousle and push it into a side swept part. To define curls even more, use a curl crème and take finger sections and spiral curl them around your finger.  Let them dry naturally .

Good luck with your new summer dooooos, send me some pictures...

Bring on the Beauty

Psst... hey, guys. You know that briar patch of fur sitting on your chest, back, butt, face, nose, ears, toes, hands and, um, you know?

I found this article and wanted to share it with all of you...

Bring on the beauty

bu Lauren Fitzky

Your man thinks he’ll look metro if he manscapes and manicures, but he doesn’t need to go full force. Just a few simple girl-inspired beauty tricks can make your man someone with whom you’re proud to parade down the street.

Tweeze the Uni-brow

Even if  he has beautiful baby blues, untrimmed eyebrow hair makes him look more like Bert from Sesame Street than Burt Lancaster. Waxing is probably a lot to ask, but handing him a pair of tweezers -- or, better yet, offering to do the job yourself -- is a lower-fuss way to groom the growth above and between his eyes.

He should start with wet brows, and comb them in the direction of the hair growth. He should then tweeze in the direction of hair growth. And of course, he'll cry like a baby about it and still not understand the price we pay to look beautiful!

Moisturize the Rough Spots

Men who don’t moisturize have dry hands -- the last things you want caressing your bare skin. Forget the fruity, frilly lotions, and instead recommend a neutral-smelling moisturizer. Go for one that pumps to make it super-easy for him to do it. Next to the sweet scent, the whole unscrewing the cap and pouring it onto his body is what makes it too much for him.

His feet are also ripe spots for moisturizing. Calluses and rough patches will disappear once he starts apply cream  regularly, and his feet might smell a little nice, too.  Get him to lotion up his toes before bed so the magic takes place while he’s sleeping.

Suds Up with Body Wash

Is your man really still using bar soap? Sneak a manly-scented body wash into his shower caddy to make his skin smoother and fresher-feeling. He’ll reap the same benefits as you do: Skin that’s soft instead of super-dry and itchy. He’ll probably draw the line at using a loofah, though.

Arm Against UV

A lot of men couldn't care less about aging; they assume they’ll do it gracefully, like Brad Pitt and George Clooney. But if your man continually strolls out in the sun without protection, he’s going to resemble Keith Richards before he hits retirement. You might be able to combine forces with tip No. 2 by suggesting a moisturizer with all-day sunscreen.

Clean up the Nails

You probably don’t want to know what’s living under your man’s nails. It could be dirt from the football game he played three days ago or sauce from the buffalo wings he scarfed down last night. Filing those suckers down on occasion will keep them clean of dirt and other particles in the future.

Dress to Look Thinner- part III

 (How to wear a skirt)

A hemline that hits at the heaviest part of your leg adds pounds:

So if your legs are skinny, you can wear your longer skirts around mid-calf - which i the heaviest part of the lower leg.  If you have heavy legs, long skirts would look better hemmed lower, at the narrowest part of the calf.  As you experiment, see if this holds true for you.

Skirts should be longer than they are wide:

Since you always want to get vertical lines from a skirt for maximum elongation.  That's why fuller skirts usually look better a little longer and straight shirts a little shorter.

Wearing a skirt longer than mid-calf can make you look matronly - especially if you are on the petite side:

This length requires a triple check, and is another thing to look for as you experiment.  Just above the ankle can be a graceful length, but is not recommended for women with thick ankles.  As for the ultra long skirts that fall below the ankle - well, that's an extremely tough length to make work with anything but evening gowns.  Frankly, I wouldn't suggest it.

Skirts with side slits are a natural if you have good legs:

Skirts with front slits, on the other hand, never move very gracefully and are generally unflattering on everybody.

And finally...

New custom designer, Rob Kinch, has an interesting theory.  He fills that short skirts are usually most flattering when they fall right around a certain part of the knee.  "there's a little part pf a woman's leg that goes in at the knee on the inside - a little indentation," he says.  "If you finish the skirt above the indentation you'll be surprised how long and lean your leg will look.  Many women will go right below that indentation so that you see the widest part of their knee, which makes them look very large and their knees not very pretty."  Something to think about.

How to Blend the Monochromatic Rule?

Of course, you can bend the rule.  You didn't think I was going to keep you in fashion jail, did you?  There will probably be times when you just don't feel like dressing in one color. A little cheating is fine, as long as we don't lose the monochromatic magic.  Once we start on this course, the resulting outfits might not be technically monochromatic, but they'll be real close, which is good enough.  Bending a rule is always fun if you can get away with it.  No sticklers, please.

Play around with values:

The first bend in the road is the juxtaposition of values.  Value is the lightness or darkness of a color.  Black is the darkest value, white is the lightest.  Every other color falls somewhere in-between.  It's really easy to see value when you look at black and white photographs because it's the only color element that actually comes through.  Medium red and medium green, for instance, come across as the same shade as gray.  Ditto for pale yellow and pale pink, or dark brown and navy.  So when you're trying to determine value of a particular color, just imagine what shade of gray it would be in a black and white photograph.  The closer the shades of gray, the closer the colors are in value.

One VALUE of different colors:

Theoretically, you could mix almost any colors of the same value and create some pretty spiffy fashion combinations.  In the pastel ranges for instance, you could mix a yummy melange of dusty pinks and blues, lavenders, muted greens, and melons.  Bright combos such as red and purple, bright blue and emerald, turquoise and yellow might also be viable and exciting.  But if you're serious about looking thinner your best bet is to mix subtle dark colors, such a navy and deep green, mink brown and charcoal gray, deep wine and raisin, or any of the above with black.  It's a very effective and creative way to skirt the  monochromatic rule.  The slight variations in color add interst, but you get almost the same solidarity as a single color since the eye is not terribly distracted.  It works best with the darker tones because they absorb light and seem to blend seamlessly together.  The intensity of the brighter colors, on the other hand, tend to draw the eye to where the two colors meet, which would be risky in terms of camouflage if the colors intersected in an undesirable area, say a toss the hips.  Not only would you be drawing attention where you might not want it, but a horizontal line would be created that would interrupt the vertical line of the body.  Two strikes, almost out!

One COLOR of different values:

The other value-mixing tactic is to blend different values of the same color.  In other words, blend lighter and darker shades of one color.  You could blend a range of grays, for instance, from pearl to putty to slate to charcoal; or a palette of browns form taupe to cocoa to chocolate. (Oops sorry, didn't mean to alert your sweet tooth.)  It's always a good idea to keep lighter tones on top for balance.  Also, since lighter tones draw attention first, they lead the eye up to your lovely face and away from any potential trouble spots.  Blends in the same color family give the impression of solid color unity and make for a longer and leaner look.  Plus, they are quite chic and very sophisticated to boot...

Use Texture to Add Interest to Monochromes

While we're talking one color here, we're in no way limiting texture.  You can incorporate as many different textures into an outfit as you like - within reason, of course.  In fact, you would be surprised at the extra pizazz and sophistication you can get with a little warp and woof.  Imagine The rich interplay of a buttery soft suede jacket, cashmere turtleneck, fluid wool flannel trousers, and silk scarf.  even if all colors were identical, the variations in textures would give the outfit a rich interesting dimension and relief from sameness.  And the look isn't limited to just layering clothes you can apply this to any season, yes even summer.  Look at your closet and combine some simple combinations with a sporty capri pant , sleeveless sift and whimsical coverlet.

With textures like ribbing, knits, tweeds, and jacquard type fabrics, you can even add patterns without ever getting near another color.  Plus textures can even help define the mood of your outfit.  You could, for instance, adds a touch of affluence with silk charmeuse , a hint of femininity with lace or chiffon. or a dash of romanticism with velvet.  Sop take advantage of texture.  It can lend as much interest and pizazz as a second color, but offers much less risk of leading the eye off its slimming vertical course. Try a navy silk charmeuse shell with your navy gabardine suit, for instance, or a wonderful navy chiffon and velvet scarf, or both.

Dumb Blonde Joke:

A dumb blond was really tired of being made fun of, so she decided to have her hair she would look like a brunette.
When she had brown hair, she decided to take a drive in the country.

After she had been driving for a while, she saw a farmer and a flock of sheep and thought,

"Oh! Those sheep are so adorable!"

She got out and walked over to the farmer and said,

"If I can guess how many sheep you have, can I take one home?"

The farmer, being a bit of a gambler himself, said she could have a try.

The blonde looked at the flock and guessed, "157."

The farmer was amazed - she was right! So the blond, (who looked like a brunette), picked one out and got back into her car.

Before she left, farmer walked up to her and said.

"If I can guess the real color of your hair, can I have my dog back?"
